Tuobodom (B/A), Dec.31, GNA- Cashew Farmers at Tuobodom near Techiman have called on the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to provide them with technical advise on production of cashew.

Mr Emmanuel Danso Mensah, Chairman of Tuobodom Nyame Bekyere Cashew Farmers Society made the call at a meeting with Cashew Farmers at Tuobodom.

Mr Mensah said the absence of an Agricultural extension officer at Tuobodom has affected farmers in the area.

He alleged that most farmers had to travel to Techiman sometimes to seek technical advice from the Agricultural Extension Officers and other experienced farmers.

He indicated that the extension officers in charge of the Tuobodom Zone commute between Techiman and Tuobodom and said the opening of an office in the town would afford farmers to acquire improved agricultural methods for increased production.

Mr Mensah suggested to the Government to get involved in the purchase of cashew to increase the producer price just like cocoa. Mr Alfred Adjei, Secretary of Tuobodom Nyame Bekyere Cashew Farmers Society, said the Society, which started last year with 45 members now had over 107 members.

He commended the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) for assisting Cashew Growers at Tuobodom, Sikaa, Akonkonti, Manso and Tom. Nana Ameyaw Manu, Managing Director of Nana Ameyaw Cashew Purchasing Company in charge of Techiman, Nkoranza and Kintampo Districts Cashew Growing Areas, asked the farmers to come together to enable them get value for their produce.

Nana Manu added that as cashew farmers they could only solve their problems if they were united.
