Members of the Greater Accra Association of School Feeding Caterers have rejected the payment of their arrears via mobile money, describing is as unsafe.

They claim efforts to reach the Coordinator of the School Feeding Programme to make known their concerns have proven futile.

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection introduced the payment of caterers of the Programme through mobile money after assuming oversight responsibility of the social intervention programme.

Speaking on TV3’s Midday Live on Thursday, October 15, Marian Appiah Korang, a member of the Association, said network glitches and inability to withdraw more than GH¢1,000 are among reasons why the platform is not conducive for such payment.

“We use the banks which give us facilities and the programme you have to pre-finance,” she explained, adding that payment through their banks will give them credibility with the banks.

“We don’t want mobile money,” Zebora, another executive member, said. “It is not safe.”

The Association said it has petitioned the Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly to help.

Already, the Programme owes them arrears of two terms.
