Nkoranza (B/A), Aug. 3, GNA - Roman Catholic parents of children attending Saint Theresa's Primary and Junior Secondary School at Nkoranza have called for the immediate transfer of the headmaster, Mr Bright Owusu, for being a member of the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church.

"They prefer that a member of the Roman Catholic Church, heads the school", Mr Kwabena Agyemang-Badu, Nkoranza District Director of Education disclosed at the weekend.

Addressing a meeting of the Parents-Teachers-Association (PTA) of the school at Nkoranza, he abhorred the stance of the Catholic parents, saying, religious inclination had nothing to do with the education of the children. He described Mr Owusu as one of the hard working heads in the district and the school is the best basic public school in the district.

Mr Agyemang-Badu said the problem was compounded by the approval of the parents' call by the leadership of the Church in the Sunyani Diocese.

"The Regional Manager of Catholic Educational Unit, Nana Obiri Apraku and the Catholic Bishop, the Right Reverend Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi have confronted the District Director of Education on the matter, which indicates that they have also got interest in the parents' decision", he added.

Mr Agyemang-Badu said he had planned to accede to the request of the parents and transfer Mr Owusu and called on the Regional Manager to look for a competent headmaster, who is a Catholic for the school. Mr Kwasi Owusu-Sekyere, PTA Chairman, noted that it was wrong for the Catholic parents to take such a decision, as the teachers of the school did not draw their salaries from the Catholic Church. Mr Amponsah Manu and Mr Osei Tachie, both parents, suggested that the PTA executives pass a resolution against the decision of the Catholic parents, as not all the parents agreed to their decision.
