Academic activities at the Asem Cluster of Schools in Kumasi were suspended on Monday, July 22, 2024, in the morning due to the invasion of cattle on the premises.

About thirty of the stray animals prevented some teachers and pupils from entering their classrooms to start their morning lessons.

The cattle were found walking on the veranda and the compound while urinating and defecating, a scene that caused fear and panic among the schoolchildren.

During a visit by Otec News at 7:30 in the morning, the classroom doors and windows were closed to prevent animals from entering. Additionally, some pupils were observed standing far from the compound.

Some of the teachers who spoke to Otec News on condition of anonymity said the compound has served as a grazing field for cattle for several years, and their complaints have not produced any results.

They stated that the situation always disrupts school activities and puts the lives of teachers and students at risk.

the fear of their children and wards' lives, parents and guardians are withdrawing them from the school, gradually causing the school to collapse, they further said.

The teachers then appealed to the city authorities to ensure that the animals were prevented from entering the compound during academic activities.

Some of the students interviewed by Otec News expressed concern about the situation and dissatisfaction with having to constantly clean up animal feces and urine in the morning, which makes them uncomfortable.
