Cement donated by Former MP go to waste

Nkrankrom, (B/A), Feb. 11 GNA - One Hundred and Forty 140 bags of cement donated by Mr Prince Oduro-Mensah, Former Member of Parliament for Techiman South towards the rehabilitation of a school block at Nkrankrom in the Techiman Municipality have gone waste.

Mr Oduro-Mensah bought the cement with his Member of Parliament share of the District Assemblies' Common Fund (DACF) for the rehabilitation of the Llocal Authority Primary School at Nkrankrom. Mr Ben Kwabena Asante, Head Teacher of the School announced this at a rally organised to honour the Omanhene of Techiman Traditional Area, Oseadeeyo Akumfi-Ameyaw IV when he visited the area as part of his familiarisation tour of some communities in the Municipality. Mr Asante said because of political differences the Community Leaders could not come together to organise communal labour to rehabilitate the school leaving the cement to go bad.

He said the slow pace of Ghana's development could be attributed to the high degree of political, religious, ethnic and tribal differences among Ghanaians.

He said this trend had greatly affected the development of education in the area and called on the stakeholders to step in to solve such differences that retarded development in the area.

Oseadeeyo Akumfi-Ameyaw said it was time for parents and teachers to come together to strengthen the Parent-Teacher relationship to improve the standard of education and provide adequate logistics for pupils in the community.

He reminded them of the necessity to involve themselves actively in the development programmes in the area to ensure progress. Oseadeeyo Akumfi-Ameyaw said the Government alone could not be expected to develop all areas of the country without the people's keen participation and initiative through self-help.

The Omanhene called on chiefs and people in the area to eschew petty jealousies and team up with one another to ensure the sustainable development of the Municipality.

At Amangoase, Oseadeeyo Akumfi-Ameyaw cautioned the people against indiscriminate bush burning to save the environment. Nana Kofi Anini, Chief of Amangoase, appealed for the establishment of a Senior Secondary School in the area to solve their children's problem of having travelling to Techiman, Buoyem, Aworowa, Tuobodom, Offuman to attend schools there.

Nana Ameyaw Kaako Asamoah, Nifahene; Nana Kwame Owusu, Ankobeahene; Nana Antwi Boasiako, Akyeamhene; Nana Apenteng Fosu Gyeabour, Bamuhene and Hansuahene; Nana Gyasi Acheampong, Adaatihene and Nana Opunawuse Wiredu-Brempong, Kasapimhene all of the Techiman Traditional Area accompanied the Omanhene.
