Central Regional Minister opens new market

Cape Coast, Sept. 15, GNA - The Central Regional Minister, Nana Ato Arthur on Thursday opened a new market for the people of Abura, a suburb of Cape Coast.

The market comprises of about 50 stores and 97 stalls and was funded with support from ASSIP, a subsidiary of the World Bank, which contributed 75 per cent of the cost, whiles the Assembly and the beneficiary traders contributed the remaining 25 per cent. The actual coast of the project, which took off in 1990 and was completed in 2000, was however, not immediately made known. Nana Arthur, who is also the Acting Municipal Chief Executive, expressed the hope that the market would help improve the socio-economic conditions of more women in the Municipality.

He directed the Municipal Coordinating Director to ensure the formation of a committee, comprising among others, traditional rulers in the area and a representative each from the Environmental Health and Revenue Units of the Assembly to oversee the administration of the market, as well as ensure good sanitation practices. He commended the traders, who contributed towards the project and for their patience in waiting for " all these years" for the completion of the market.

Present at the ceremony were Nana Kojo Addae II, Chief of Abura, who presided and Nana Kojo Menya II, Chief of Pedu another suburb of Cape Coast.
