Cape Coast, April 21, GNA - The Central Regional Minister, Nana Ato Arthur, and the Regional Director of Education, Ms Rosemond Blay, on Monday visited some of the centres where candidates are writing the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Cape Coast metropolis where 3,325 candidates are writing the examination. Seventeen candidates, mostly girls, were absent at five of the seven centres visited with reasons ranging from ill health to travelling out of the country.
A total of total of 35,962 candidates are expected to write the BECE in 114 centres in the region.
At the Wesley Girls' examination centre, two pregnant girls were seen writing the examination while three of the 465 candidates were absent.
Three girls and a boy were also absent at the Adisadel college centre out of the 694 candidates, while two candidates had reported sick at the Mfantsipim centre where 478 candidates are expected to write. St Augustine's centres had two absentees from the 497 candidates while at the Holy Child centre, three were absent from 504 candidates registered.
The assistant supervisor, Mr Foster Anyomi, said the examination was going on smoothly. The examination is expected to end on Friday, April 25.
