The Chief Justice, Mrs. Georgina Theodora Wood, has cautioned students against corruption, saying the menace derailed national development.

She said as potential leaders of the country, students needed to acquire life transforming values for their personal development.

Mrs. Wood was speaking at the seventh annual Lady Chief Justice’s Mentoring Programme on the theme: “ Service in Integrity to Ghana: The Role of the Youth” in Accra on Thursday.

The programme is aimed at educating the youth on the judicial system and inspires them to develop interest in the profession through direct interaction with leaders.

The event initiated in 2007 by the Chief Justice under the sponsorship of DANIDA, is to offer students of selected senior high schools the opportunity to interact with members of the bench and bar, as well as Judicial Service staff to learn and share their experience.

The students would be taken through a guided tour of the Judicial Service, observe Court Sessions in the Commercial Court, Fast Track High Court, Gender Based Violence Court, Family and Juvenile Court, Land Court, Financial Court, among others.

She expressed the hope that the programme would go a long way to impact positively on the development of the students to become responsible leaders.

Mrs. Gertrude Torkonoo, an Appeal Court Judge, urged the students to have a vision, take initiatives and develop problem solving skills.

She said the less integrity citizens have in society, the highly fragmented the community would be.

“Develop your personal leadership skills, have vision and be battle ready for the future,” she added.

Mr Frank Beecham, Past President of the Ghana Bar Association, told the students to work hard, since hard work does not kill but rather polishes oneself.

He called on them to strive for the right values in the chain of development with tolerance and respect for others as their priority.

This year’s event saw students from Sunyani Senior High School, Notre Dame Senior High School, Don Bosco Technical Institute, Serwaa Kesse Senior High School, Holy Child Senior High School and Akropong School for the Blind.

The rest are Adisadel College, Kwegyir Aggrey Senior High School, Accra Wesley Girls’ Senior High School and Armed Forces Senior High School.
