Chief appeals for extension of water to Effutu Rural

Gyanagyanadze (C/R) Oct. 24 GNA-The chief of Gyanagyanadze near Winneba, Nana Ekwame Gyanagyanadze II, on Saturday appealed to the government to extend water to the Effutu Rural to solve the water problem facing the people in the area.

Making the appeal through the Ghana News Agency at Gyanagyanadze, he said most people in the are being compel by the situation to buy a bucket of water at 1000 cedis, while those unable have to search for stagnant and unsafe water in the bush.

According to him the water problem has forced most of the youth to leave the area, a situation that retarded the development of the area. The chief said that the area is about three kilometres from Winneba, where a Water Station is situated and expressed regret that they have not been connected to enjoy pipe-bone water.

He therefore, suggested to the district assembly to presently install tanks in the various communities and ask the Water Company to fill them with for the people as an initial solution to the problem. Mr. John Mensah, District Manager of the Ghana Water Company said it is the intention of the company to extend water to surrounding communities but lack of fund was delaying the project. He said that the new station that could supply about 3.2 million gallons of water daily is currently supplying only 1.2 gallons.

Mr. Mensah said that some pipe lines to nearby communities in Effutu Rural were being tested and those found to be good would be used to supply water to those communities.
