Chief appeals for release of land for development

Buoku (B/A), Sept. 17, GNA - The chiefs and people of Buoku in the Wenchi District have appealed to the Forest Services Division to urgently release part of the Yaya forest reserve to the community to build more houses to expand the town.

Nana Addai Sekyeredu, chief of Buoku, at a day's "Farmers Field Day" organised by Techno-Serve, in collaboration with United States Agency for International Development and Ministry of Food and Agriculture.

He said he became chief of Buoku in 1997 and since then he has seen a tremendous growth of the population and that the community now required an additional space development.

The chief said he had made follow-ups to Accra on a formal request he had lodged with the Division for the release of land but each time he went, "it was the same usual verbal assurance of your letter is receiving attention". Meanwhile, Nana Sekyeredu thanked the management of Kasap Quarry and Wenchi District Assembly for donating 10 electric bulbs each towards an electrification project at Buoku/Ayigbe. He said the Wenchi District Assembly had threatened to close down a 330 million cedis local Methodist school block constructed under the Assembly's Self-Help programme because the community was in arrears in payment of its part of the 10 percent cost of the project.
