Baffour Obutu Frimpong, III, Chief of Essaso-Amanfrom in the Asamankese Traditional Area of the Eastern Region, has appealed to the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) to help curb accidents on the roads.

He said the GPRTU should make public safety, its priority to curb the loss of lives and property on the roads.

Baffour Obutu who made the appeal in an interview with Ghana News Agency at Asamankese in the West Akim Municipality stressed: “The safety and security of passengers including the ... public, must take precedence over all other considerations of the Union.”

He pointed out that most of the accidents on the Asamankese – Nsawam, Asamankese – Kade, Asamankese – Suhum and Asamankese - Akroso roads were human errors and classified some of them as over-speeding, drunkenness and refusal by drivers to maintain their vehicles.

He asked the various transport Unions to endeavour to organise periodic classes for their member-drivers, to be abreast of road signs and highway codes.
