Chief appeals to teachers to redouble efforts

Tarkwa (W/R), May 29, GNA - Nana Sampson Codjoe, Chief of Iduapriem near Tarkwa has appealed to teachers in the area to redouble their efforts to improve the academic performance of pupils and students. He was speaking at the opening of a three-day workshop organised and sponsored by Anglogold Ashanti Iduapriem Limited (AAIL) for forty teachers at Iduapriem.

The teachers were trained in problem identification, lesson planning, effective teaching practices, skills development and evaluation.

Nana Cudjoe said though teachers in the area were working under very difficult conditions, that should not stopped them from imparting their good store of knowledge and talents to the school children whose future heavily depended on them.

He said that the effort of the AAIL in improving the living standards of the people in his area was well appreciated. Mr Kwamena Sekyi-Yorke, Head of the Community and Public Relation of the AAIL, said the Mine places high premium on its Corporate Social Responsibility in the education of the children adding, "Management will continue to encourage the teachers of the host communities with such incentives."

A facilitator Mr Ato Paintsil described the workshop as a good opportunity for the teachers to sharpen their teaching skills. Mr Paintsil who is also the Headmaster of the University of Mines and Technology (UMT) Junior and Senior High School, said the workshop would add new ways of improving the academic standard of their respective schools.

He added: "Skill training is a continuous process and as teachers we always have to acquire new ways of teaching to be able to cope with the new and changing trends of human development". Mr Ebenezer Eshun, the course prefect and also the Head Teacher of the Adieyie Junior High Schools, said the timing of the workshop was appropriate because teachers would go back to school with refreshed approach.

He thanked the management of AAIL on behalf of the participants for such exercise, which brought teachers of the various schools in the area to share their experiences.
