Chief calls for the construction of Dodowa-Mampong-Adawso road

Mampong-Akuapem(E/R), Oct 17, GNA - Nana Otu Pabi IV, the Mampong-Akuapemhene, has suggested the construction of a 16- kilometre Dodowa-Mampong-Adawso road to help reduce the travel distance between Tema and Kumasi by 50 kilometres.

Nana Pebi, who was speaking at a durbar of chiefs and people of Mampong-Akuapem to mark this year's Ohum festival at Mampong on Saturday, said such a road would save motorists time and fuel.

He expressed his appreciation to the government for the Adenta-Mamfi road, the beginning of the construction work on the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Complex, the renovation of the old Mampong-Akuapem court building and other facilities that had been provided for the town. Mr William Ofori-Boafo, the Deputy Minister of Defence and Member of Parliament for Akropong, appealed to rich Mampong-Akuapem citizens to sponsor the education of brilliant but needy students in the community. He appealed to the Mampong-Akuapem Town Council to come out with a development plan for the town to enable him and other Akuapem citizens to see how they could help get sponsors for some of the projects. Mr Ofori-Boafo advised the youth of the area to form co-operative groups to enable them benefit from various financial packages available in the district.

Ms Susana Mensah, the Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, appealed to the traditional authorities to support the government's Capitation Grant to encourage parents to send their children to school. The Akuapem North District Chief Executive, Mr Edward Adu-Aboagye, said the District Assembly had acquired a bigger plot of land for the re-construction of the guesthouse that was pulled down to make way for the construction of the Accra-Mamfi road.
