Chief declares support for fight against wee smokers

Wamfie (B/A), Oct. 12, GNA - Mansen Gyaasehene, Nana Asamoah Korkort= i Diamro Kumi, has declared his support for the Dormaa East District Assembly's efforts at stemming drug abuse among the youth. Nana Asamoah Korkorti Diamro Kumi, a former District Chief Executive in the Kufuor Administration, declared the support at the inauguration of a block of six classrooms constructed by the Assembly for the Wamfie Roman Catholic Primary School.

He was reacting to an appeal by the DCE, Mr. Isaac Kofi Kyeremeh, to residents to help prevent Indian hemp smokers from using the facility for their nefarious activities He said there was the need for traditional authorities and the Distric= t Assembly to close in on the hide-outs of 93wee" smokers to flush them ou= t.

"If the situation calls for the presence of soldiers let us not hesitate to bring them in to protect our facilities and promote sound mind among the youth", he said.

Mr. Kyeremeh lauded the selfless role of the former DCE in the district's development processes and appealed to him to continue to assis= t the Assembly with his rich and varied local governance experience. He said communities in Dormaa-East District had enjoyed a fair share o= f the government's 93Better Ghana" agenda with several development proje= cts. A school block was inaugurated for the Presbyterian Primary School at Dormaa-Akwamu while the Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Junior High School (JHS= ) at Wamfie also received a block of three classrooms.

The Headteacher of Dormaa-Akwamu Presbyterian Primary school, Mr. Isaa= c Osei Mensah, commended the Assembly for replacing the school's old dilapidated school block with a new one. He appealed to the Assembly to consider giving the school a new block for the Kindergarten and also procure computers to enable the pupils to gai= n knowledge in Information Communication Technology (ICT).
