Twifo Hemang (C/R), June 2, GNA - Nana Kweku Issah, Chief of Baakondidi in the Twifo-Hemang-Lower-Denkyira District, has appealed to the Electoral Commission (EC) to provide a polling station at Last Stop, a small community in the District, to encourage all eligible voters there to vote in Election 2004.
Nana Issah expressed regret that the people of Last Stop have had to walk a distance of 6.4 kilometres to the nearest polling station at Bukuruso to cast their votes, during elections, due to transportation problems.
He made the appeal when Mr Abraham Odoom, District Chief Executive, paid a working visit to Last Stop and noted that as a result, eligible voters, who could not make the journey on foot, failed to exercise their franchise.
Nana Issah said he was hopeful that the EC would duly consider his call, to ensure that voters at Last Stop were provided with a polling booth to motivate them to vote.
He also appealed to the District Assembly to construct a classroom block for the village and a market at Baakondidi to cater for all the surrounding villages.
Mr Odoom, who explained some Government policies to the people, told them that their requests would be given serious attention.
