Kodie (Ash), April 8, GNA - Nana Boakye Yiadom Atonsa II, chief of Danase and a government appointee, was on Thursday elected the Presiding Member of the Afigya-Kwabre District Assembly. This was after his only other challenger, Mr Osei Yaw Anning, had stepped down.

Nana Boakye Yiadom Atonsa, 64, received 100 percent endorsement of the 53-member assembly.

Three earlier attempts to elect the Presiding Member failed as neither the chief nor Mr Anning could secure the mandatory two-thirds majority votes. He would serve for two years and would be eligible for re-election= .. Nana Boakye Yiadom Atonsa thanked the assembly for the honour and said there was the need for the assembly members to inject pace into the socio-economic development of the area.

Mr Kwaku Oppong-Kyekyeku Kaakyire, the District Chief Executive, urged the members to avoid factionalism and given the area's peculiar development challenges as a new district they should all accept to work hard to make things better.
