The chief of Adum-Kwanwoma, near Kumasi, Nana Kofi Agyei IV, has initiated efforts to improve facilities at the Kwanwoma Boys Senior High School (KBSHS), which is the only second cycle institution in that community.
He has appealed to the district assembly to urgently respond to the plea for the construction of classroom and administration blocks, a dormitory, dinning and assembly halls, to complement an existing six-unit classroom block and an office, which are the only facilities at the school.
Nana Agyei IV made the appeal when the newly elected District Chief Executive for the Atwima Kwanwoma District, Hon. Kwabena Nkrumah, paid a familiarization visit to Adum-Kwanwoma to inspect ongoing projects
The construction of the senior high school was made possible through the sole financial contribution of the chief. Prior to the construction of the Kwanwoma Boys Senior High School, male students abandoned their education after completing junior high school, since the only second cycle school near the community is female only.
A transformer has also been procured to be stationed at the school to ensure interrupted supply of electricity to boost teaching and learning.
Nana Agyei IV has also earmarked a vast stretch of land for interested individuals, religious and other organizations to use for the construction of a tertiary institution to serve Adum-Kwanwoma and its environs.
The chief also appealed to the local government authority to intervene to complete the construction of a health center, which is currently at the lintel level. The completion of the health center would bring a sigh of relief to the people, who trek long distances to access healthcare.
He praised the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Hon Appiah Kubi, for using part of his common fund to facilitate the construction of some wards at the health center.
Other initiatives of Nana Agyei IV include the construction of a ten-seater KVIP and the drilling of four bore-holes for the people of Adum-Kwanwoma to have access to safe water.
The DCE, Hon Kwabena Nkrumah, praised the chief for his efforts and he promised to use his office to promote accessible and quality education in the community.
He said the health centre in the town would be upgraded to become a hospital to serve the health needs of the people. He called for total collaboration between the people and the assembly to ensure progress in the district.
Hon Nkrumah advised the citizens not to allow politics to create division among them. “Let us put our political differences aside and seek the development of Atwima Kwanwoma” he said.

Farmers Receive Support from government

The Kwabre District Director of Agric, Mr Samuel Semakor, has praised government for supporting farmers in the district with farming equipments and inputs, which would boost food production in the area.
According to him grants received from the Japanese Government through the government of Ghana would assist farmers in the district to increase food production in the 2014 farming season.
In an exclusive interview with this reporter Mr Semakor explained that farm machineries such as irrigation equipments, tractors, maize rippers, treasure, and power tailors are helping farmers in the Kwabre District.
He said extension officers have been deployed to also educate farmers on simple but effective farming methods to help farmers improve on their yields.
He mentioned that subsidized seeds and fertilizers have been given to the farmers. These measures are all intended to eradicate poverty and make the farmers self sufficient.
The Agric Director revealed that the Kwabre District has been divided into 15 operational zones to make it easier for agric officers to visit farms and offer free advisory services to farmers.
He also commended the government for taking a bold decision to support poultry farmers in the area as well.
