Nana Effah Opinamang III, the Chief of Kwahu Obomeng has unveiled a statue in memory of the late Chief of Obomeng, Nana Obeng Akrofi, who ruled from 1989 to 2009.
The gesture formed part of activities marking the tenth anniversary celebration of Nana Opibamang’s reign, and was use to honour hard work, commitment and dedication to the development of the Obomeng community.
At a ceremony to unveil the statue at Obomeng in the Kwahu South District of the Eastern Region, Nana Opinamang III said the late chief contributed immensely to the development of Obomeng community, hence the need to celebrate him.
He said the late chief had a vision to transform smaller communities under Obomeng such as Nkawkaw, Wawase, Wisiwisi among others to a befitting status.
He talked about plans to construct and complete the queen mother's palace initiated by the late chief, to help create an enabling environment for the reigning queen mother.
Nana Opinamang assured that he would not deviate from the legacies of the late chief, but would continue to ensure the progress of the community.
He expressed satisfaction about the outcome of the Easter festivities, adding that, together with his elders, they would continue to introduce activities that would uplift the future celebration of Easter in Obomeng, so as to raise funds to carry out development projects in the area.
He called on all and sundry to let peace and tranquillity prevail among them, to ensure development.
The programme was also use to raise funds for the Obomeng Aged Association.
