Agona Swedru (C/R), March 16, GNA - Nana Aseidu Kobina Botwe II, Swedruhene, has urged members of the Agona Swedru Municipal Assembly not to allow their political affiliations to impede their business. He reminded them of the non-partisan nature of the Assembly concept and urged them to place the development of the area above their political affiliations.

Nana Aseidu Kobina Botwe said this at the inauguration of the Agona West Municipal Assembly at Agona Swedru on Tuesday. He said the previous assembly was completely partisan and if the trend continued, no meaningful development could come to Agona West.

Nana Aseidu Kobina Botwe said promoting the interests of the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party in the Assembly would create division and affect the development of the area. He said Assembly members should work as a team to help the police and other security agencies to fight drug peddling and other high crime that had engulfed the Municipality. Nana Botwe called on the members to support the incoming Municipal chief Executive to fast track infrastructure and human resource development.

Mr Sylvester Mensah, Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) read the President's inaugural address. The 44-member assembly made up 13 government appointees and 31 elected, later elected Mr Samuel Oppong, former Member of Parliament for Agona West, as Presiding Member. Mr Oppong, who was sole candidate, polled 42 out of 44 votes in an election conducted by the officials of the Agona West Electoral Commission.
