Old Ningo (G/A), Sept. 10, GNA - Nineteen teenagers in the Bantama Electoral Area of Old Ningo have, from January to date, been made pregnant.
"This is a source of worry to us the elders in the area and we appeal to concerned non governmental organisations (NGOs) to assist us to find a solution to this social canker", Nene Afum Kafra III, Gyasetse, told newsmen during a durbar of the chiefs and people of Old Ningo on Tuesday.
He said the elders of the two gates in the Bantama Area, Nene Agguda and Nene Huago have tried their best through counselling, to ensure that the youth, especially the girls, completed their education but they continued to get pregnant.
The durbar, dubbed, "Unity Durbar" and observed under the theme: "Peace and Development," was also to inaugurate the Lowekponor Divisional Council as well as raise funds to tackle development projects in the Bantama Area.
The projects include expansion of water supply, support for farmers and fishermen to hire tractors and outboard motors, respectively. The Gyasetse said the village has a fort, "Fort Fredisburg" that served as the dwelling place for slaves and appealed for assistance from UNESCO to help in developing it to serve as a tourist attraction.
