Chief, two others sue Assembly

Sunyani (Brong Ahafo) -- Nana Kwabena Dwomoh, chief of Nyankomagokrom and two of his elders have filed a suit at the Sunyani High Court to compel the Asunafo District Assembly and two others to ensure that a clinic is sited in the town.

The suit is to compel the Assembly, Joseph Madiago, assembly member for Adenkyekye and Dahamani of Kwadwo Addaikrom, who is the unit committee chairman, to construct the clinic under the Social Investment Fund (SIF) at Nyankomagokrom instead of Kwadwo Adaikrom.

The writ stated that Nana Kwabena Dwomoh initiated a clinic project for the villages in Bitre area of Mim around 1985. Subsequently, the community constructed a house for the clinic but it collapsed about three years ago during a severe rainstorm.

As a result, the clinic was moved into a private house manned by trained health personnel. The writ said the community later decided to construct another clinic and nurses’ quarters in the village but realising that they did not have enough funds to complete the project, they appealed to the assembly for assistance.

It said the assembly approved the request while awaiting funds to implement the project. Nana Kwabena Dwomoh said in June 2002, the District Chief Executive informed him that four clinics were to be constructed under SIF, one of which was to be sited within the Bitre area.

Consequently, the DCE requested the villages to select a location for the project. The communities agreed to build the clinic at Nyankomagokrom and the chiefs of the various villages signed the letter dated 16 June 2002. The Assembly agreed to their decision.

Nana Dwomoh said he learnt about three months later that the approval for the clinic had been given to Kwakwo Addaikrom. He said investigations revealed that the assembly gave the application form to the two other defendants who used the name of Kwadwo Addaikrom for SIF to finance the project.

The chief stated that the project had already been started a Nyankomagokrom with a lot funds sunk into it, and argued that there was no need to move it to Kwadwo Addaikrom.
