Kumasi, March 2, GNA-Nana Adjin Frimpong II, the chief of Old Tafo in the Kumasi metropolis, has stressed the need for all Ghanaians who have attained the age of 18 years and above to register when the voters registration exercise begins.

He noted that exercising one's franchise was a right and an obligation and therefore, behoved on all eligible voters to register and vote at the December poll to contribute effectively towards the democratic process.

Nana Adjin Frimpong was speaking at a sensitisation programme for residents of Old Tafo on the voters registration exercise on Sunday. It was designed to let the people know the importance of the exercise and therefore the need for them to register when it starts. The chief said, "the only way we can get out government representatives to be accountable to us for the mandate given them is to decide their fate through the ballot box in order to ensure good governance".

Mr Oscar Apemah-Baah, the electoral officer for the Manhyia sub-metro, cautioned voters against double registration and other nefarious activities that could disrupt the registration exercise. Any one found guilty of any malpractice would be dealt with in accordance with the electoral laws, he warned.

Nana Konadu Yiadom, chairperson of the Old Tafo town council, called on politicians to desist from reading politics into the exercise.
