Chief urges colleagues to be politically neutral

Toase (Ash), Feb. 9, GNA - Nana Asiama Poku-Afrifa II, chief of Toase, near Nkawie in the Atwima district, has advised his traditional rulers to stay out of partisan politics and to be as politically neutral as possible.

He said it was only when they were neutral that their people and politicians would accord them respect.

Addressing a meeting of the sub-traditional council at Toase on Friday, he also called on aspiring parliamentarians to desist from making empty promises.

He asked them to desist from enticing the electorate with items such as milk, sardines and building materials for votes. Nana Poku-Afrifa also called on supporters of the various political parties to refrain from using insulting language at their electioneering campaigns.

He urged the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) to educate the people on the importance of the registration exercise. Nana Poku-Afrifa advised the traditional rulers to educate their people on the importance of the registration exercise and a free and fair election.
