There is confusion at Agona Kwanyako in the Agona East District of the Central Region as some sub-Chiefs have vowed not to serve the divisional Chief of the area, Nana Ampim Darko V.

According to the sub-chiefs, the divisional Chief uses “terrorist tactics” to intimidate and cow them into submission to the extent of allegedly ordering the police to arrest some of them who challenge his decision.

The irate sub-chief claim that Nana Darko has developed quite an interesting relationship with the top brass of the police in Swedru and have been interfering in issues, which has brought tension in their area.

In view of that, they have called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to call the Agona Swedru police to order to ensure peace and tranquility.

The Tufohen of Agona Kwanyako, Nana Adjoker, made these known during a press conference.

Nana Adjoker accused Nana Darko of unilaterally imposing a ban on the beating of the traditional Asafo drum without consulting the rest of the traditional rulers.

He expressed concern about the way the Kwanyako Water Treatment Plant – which was built through the vision of the first President of Ghana, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, as per the agreement that inhabitants of the town were entitled to royalty paid by the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) – has been given to Nana Darko.

The Tufohene stated that Nana Darko’s ascension onto the Kwanyako royal stool had become a barrier for the people to enjoy the royalty from GWCL.

Nana Adjoker revealed that since the ‘Planting for food and jobs’ and ‘One district, one factory’ policies was announced by President Nana Akufo-Addo, the youth have been knocking on their doors for a meeting to find ways of benefiting from the programme but to no avail, due to the behaviour of Nana Darko.
