Awutu-Akropong (C/R), Nov. 28, GNA - The Chief of Awutu-Akropong, Nai Effisah Danquah, has asked fellow traditional heads to organize public meetings to educate their people on the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Awutu-Akropong on the District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme (DMHIS), Nai Effisah Danquah said the introduction of the new health delivery system was a good idea. However, he said, its implementation would not be free of teething challenges and impediments which would require tact and zeal to overcome.

Nai Effisah-Danquah therefore called on Mutual Insurance Health workers throughout the country to work with dedication and take initiatives to enhance its efficiency.

He appealed to farmers and fishermen co-operative societies to initiative measures to sensitise members of their respective groupings on the benefits of the scheme in order to attract them to join. Nai Effisah-Danquah also called on queen mothers in the regions to formulate strategies to register female citizens in their areas to enable them to benefit from quality and affordable healthcare from the scheme.

He expressed optimism that with time and the active participation in the national campaign for a better alternative to the "Cash and Carry" system, the NHIS would achieve the set goals.
