Chiefs Must Spearhead Towards Developemnt Of Communities-Says Prof.Alabi

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies…..(UPSA),Professor Joshua Alabi is pushing the chiefs, staff of traditional councils, regional and national house of chiefs to be at the forefront towards development of communities and also enable citizen achieve good result..

This he said will promote transparency and accountability in most communities.

He said leaders must be accountable, very passionate of the decision making process in the country such that citizens can benefit from revenue.

Prof. Alabi made this remarks at the closing ceremony of the Otumfuo centre for traditional leadership four day training for chiefs, staff of traditional councils, regional and national houses of chiefs at the University of Professional Studies in Accra.

He said there is the need for traditional leaders to be mindful of records such as book keeping, land administration, conflict resolution and documentation sine it contribute to the development of the community.

According to him the role of governance is necessary in the development of the a country therefore it is important that chiefs and tradition council must strength relationship with government and to partner in the decision making process.

‘Leadership without the traditional leaders will not be fruitful inasmuch as protection for chiefs must be strengthening, he said.

A presentation delivered by Hon Albert kan Dapaa Consulting Director of Centre for Public Accountability says it is important that chiefs and traditional council including all other house of chiefs must improve its standard through the concept of accountability.

He said democracy is how well planted in the country.

Albert Dapaah said Government is the poorest institution, and the strong pillar to sustain the drive development is transparency and accountability.

‘It is through loyalty, taxis, financial accountability, and social accountability plays important role in development but can there be role of accountability, he added.

Senior Asafoatse, Ningo, Nene Agyeman Okufru Buor IV who spoke on behalf of the chiefs commend Organisers for their effort to brainstorm them. .

He said the workshop is quite challenging though a lot have been achieved, they are in better position to manage any form of conflict that may come their way.

‘What we have learnt here will be conspire to chieftaincy issues raised at any level because we have made strategic records that can be kept as document, he said.

We are ready to play not only the role of development but able to manage all issue because land administration is not the only issues chiefs handle.

He therefore appeals to UPSA and management in charge of the centre to sort for funds in the next workshop such that chiefs and traditional leaders can acquire knowledge through the organisation of the forum and workshops.

‘I will suggest that the next programme must be run for long in order to digest some pertaining issue surrounding chiefs, he said.

All Chiefs, staff of traditional councils, regional and national houses of chiefs who made it to the workshop receive certificate for participating the course.
