Traditional durbar
A 17.64 acre land has been handed over to Awutu-Senya East Municipal Assembly for the construction of a Community Senior High School at Odupongkpehe/Ofaako in the Central Region.
The site was given out for free by the chiefs and elders of the Ofaako Traditional area at a ceremony at Odupongkpehe/Ofaako.
The project would be undertaken by Aquila International Limited and Barry’s Construction Limited.
Mr Carl Quist of the Ministry of Education, in a handing over speech, commended the chiefs for the release of the land.
He said the project was one of the ongoing 300 Senior High Schools that the Government was constructing throughout the country, which were being sponsored by the World Bank.
Mr Quist urged the contractors to carry out their work in accordance with the drawings and also on time for use as per the contract biding to avoid being found wanting.
Mr Kweku Osafo-Affum of the Twum Boafo and Partners firm, the consultancy firm on the project, explained that the project was a two-storey building, which would include a head teacher’s bungalow and a playing field. It is expected to be completed in 15 months.
Mrs Rita Arkon, the Awutu-Senya East Education Director, lauded the Government for fulfilling its promise to the Municipality to become a beneficiary of the community SHS programme.
She said the facility would help promote education in the area.
Mrs Arkon also expressed gratitude to the Assembly, chiefs and elders of Odupongkpehe/ Ofaako Traditional area for their gesture.
She appealed to other land owners to release lands for developmental projects in their localities.
She urged parents to support their children with educational materials to encourage them to learn to pass their examinations with best grades to be admitted into the SHS since it would now be at their door step.
Dr Nuhu Adams, the Awutu-Senya East Municipal Chief Executive, expressed his happiness for the project and asked the people in the area to support it.
Nai Awoshie Tetteh II, the Chief of Ofaako, thanked the Government for giving them their share of the national cake with the provision of the SHS.
He said the completion of the facility would ease the problems of school children in the Municipality who had to travel far to access education.
Nai Awoshie Tetteh and Dr Nuhu Adam earlier cut the sod for the commencement of work on the project.
