The “Landlord/Tenant Relationship” initiative of the members of the Socio-Economic Committee of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs has taken them to the Cenpower Generation Company Limited in Tema.
The members, who wished to familiarize themselves with the operations of the company, were led by the Chairman, Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona VI, the Paramount Chief and the President of the Osu Traditional Council.
Others are King Dr Noble Odaifio Welentsi III, Nungua Mantse, Nene Kanor Atiapah, Acting President of the Ningo Traditional Council, Osongaah Nii Adjei Kraku II, Tema Mantse, Nene Atsure Benta III, Acting President of Prampram Traditional Council, and Nene Abram Kabu Akuaku III, Ada Mantse and the President of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs.
Mr Samuel Brew-Butler, the founder of the company in a welcoming address, said the Cenpower was established in 2001 in response to Ghana’s pressing need for additional electricity generation capacity.
He said the Cenpower is a special vehicle created for the purpose of developing its Kpone Independent Power Plant (KIPP),” near the Tema industrial zone.
“In 2003, I teamed up with fellow experienced Ghanaian entrepreneurs and investors, Dr Jimmy Heymann, Michael Wilson and Kweku Awotwi, to establish Cenpower Limited, a wholly-owned Ghanaian company, with the special purpose of developing the KIPP,” he said.
Mr Brew-Butler said they had secured the necessary finance from predominantly African institutions and that the Cenpower’s vision is to become Ghana’s leading Private Sector Power Company.
“A proud Ghanaian business, Cenpower will focus on supplying fuel-efficient, reliable and sustainable electricity, whilst developing local capacity via training and skills transfer programmes,” he said.
Nii Kinka Dowuona, speaking on behalf of the chiefs, expressed delight with what the company was doing to mitigate the power crisis in country and urged them to continue in their efforts.
He said the development of the society has been the concern of the chiefs and that the managers of Cenpower should not hesitate to call on them (chiefs) whenever they confront any difficulties in their endeavours.
The chiefs also visited the GHACEM Company, Cargill Ghana Limited, producers of products and the Ghana Textiles Printing Company, all in Tema.
