Mr. James Gunu, Akatsi-North District Chief Executive (DCE), has appealed to traditional rulers to help stem the growing craze for wealth among the country’s youth.
He said the increased cases of crime including robbery, fraud and prostitution were partly as a result of that get-rich-quick desire engulfing the youth.
Mr. Gunu was addressing the installation ceremony of Mama Koshie Atinoto, Queen of Dzogbekope in Ave-Afiadenyigba, as part of his yuletide tour of communities in the area.
He observed with regret that the youth were being increasingly apathetic to chieftaincy, thereby threatening the authority of the institution.
Mr. Gunu, said chieftaincy was a divine one, and asked chiefs to attract honour to the institution by their actions, and avoid the conflicts and mayhem associated with the sector, by respecting the lineages.
He assured chiefs of his outfit’s support, and also appealed to chiefs to make their traditional practices development-oriented.
Mr. Gunu, accompanied by the District Education authorities, reminded the chiefs of the needed collaboration to uplift education in the infant and deprived district.
He commended Mama Atinoto for her selection, and urged chiefs to embrace the inclusion of queens in house of chiefs to tap their expertise for development.
Mama Atinoto, a Takoradi-based businesswoman, known in private life as Georgina Zilevu or Mrs. Georgina Zilevu-Antwi, pledged to attract dignity to the stool and serve her subjects’ interests.
