Ho, Jan. 25, GNA- Major-General Joseph Boateng Danquah, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), on Wednesday appealed to chiefs in conflict zones of the Volta Region to lead the way in securing peace in those areas. The areas included Nkonya/Alavanyo, Peki/Tsito and pockets of hot spots in the Kete-Krachi and Nkwanta Districts.
Major-General Danquah, who was on a day's familiarization visit to the 66 Artillery Regiment in Ho, made the appeal when he paid a courtesy call on Mr Kofi Dzamesi, the regional minister.
The CDS asked the regional minister to impress upon the chiefs and opinion leaders to seek peace since conflict was the main impediment to the success of government's poverty eradication programmes in those areas.
Major-General Danquah expressed gratitude at the level of cooperation between the military and the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC), and the good military-civilian rapport in the region. He appealed to Mr Dzamesi to ensure that education planners in the region included schools within the 66 Artillery Regiment in the infrastructure improvement programmes for educational institutions. The regional minister lauded the contribution of the Regiment in solving security problems in the region, and promised that the VRCC would continue to provide logistic support within the limit of its resources to the Regiment for peace missions.
