Chieftaincy disputes retard progress-Nana Angu

Awudua (W/R) Sept. 10 - GNA-Nana Kwabena Angu II, Divisional Chief of Apinto Traditional Area has appealed to the people of Apinto to sustain the peace now it is enjoying because chieftaincy disputes retard progress.

He said in the last few years, when the Division was embroiled in litigation, development in the area was seized, especially at Awudua, the seat of the Apinto Divisional Area.

Nana Angu regretted that owing to litigation, even public places of convenience have been destroyed and the eleven-kilometre untarred road linking Awudua to the main Tarkwa-Bogoso road had virtually become impassable.

Meanwhile, he said, huge sums of money were paid to lawyers whose services were engaged in the dispute.

He therefore, called on the Chiefs in the area to let sleeping dogs lie to pave way for development of Awudua, saying, 93let the dawn of peace and hope embrace everybody within the Division in order to move the area forward.=94

Nana Angu said these at the installation and swearing in of three new sub-chiefs of the Division at Awudua at the week-end. The Chiefs were Nana Kwabena Oboh II, Akyeamehene, Nana Akyeampomaa IV, Gyaasepanyin and Nana Kwabena Nketia IV, Abakomahene. Nana Angu observed that parents, most often waste money on other things, including funerals and pleaded with them to spend more on their children's education rather than buying expensive funeral cloths. Children, he said, would take care of the parents when they become old and to neglect them today, parents' would not get proper care when they become old and weak.

He appealed to Ghana Education Service to post more teachers to the town to help improve the academic performance of the children, adding that accommodation has been provided for the teachers who would be posted there.

He reminded the gathering that those who have not registered with the Wassa West Mutual Health Insurance Scheme to do so because there were a lot of benefits to be derived.

Nana Kwaw Ansah II, Gyaasepanyin of Wassa Fiase Traditional Area who represented the Paramount Chief told the people to forgive each other and should not allow anger and dispute to take the better part of them even at the expense of the upkeep and future well-being of their children.

Nana Kwaku Deepaah, who represented the Wassa West District Chief Executive, advised the newly installed chiefs to use their expertise and wisdom to help the Apinto Divisional Area because wisdom is not the preserve of one person.

Mr Kwamina Sekyi Yorke, head of Public Relations and Community Affairs, Anglogold Ashanti, Iduapriem Mine, who chaired the function appealed to the people to take active part in projects that would be brought into their communities by the mining companies. He said they should consider such projects as their own property and in partnership they would develop the area.
