Child trafficking cases to be investigated in Ga District

Amasaman, July 11, GNA - The Ga District Assembly has instituted a committee to investigate reported cares of child trafficking among fishing communities within the district.

Mr. Samuel Nii Aryeetey Atto, District Chief Executive, who disclosed this at the closing ceremony of a quiz competition at Amasaman over the weekend pointed out that it was criminal for people to engage in child trafficking.

The three-day competition was organised by Action Aid, a non-governmental organisation for some selected schools within the district.

He warned perpetrators of such acts to desist from the inhuman practice since they would be made to face the full rigours of the law when caught.

The DCE, urged teachers in the district to assist the assembly by sensitising parents, guardians and pupils on the dangers of child trafficking.

He reminded them of their responsibility to protect children against child labour, slavery, trafficking and drug abuse. Mr Attoh said the assembly was doing everything possible to improve educational standard in schools within the district adding that the assembly in collaboration with the European Union and Action Aid had provided several schools, with new blocks of classrooms. He advised the pupils to learn hard and show respect to their parents, elders and teachers.

Mr Johnson Yeboah, Co-ordinator of the Ga District branch of Action Aid pledged his outfit's continued support towards activities of the committee.

This he said would go a long way to protect and promote the rights and welfare of the children.
