Sekondi, May 17, GNA - Mr John Hackman, Senior Regional Coordinator of the Ghana National Commission for Children (GNCC) in-charge of the Western Region, on Saturday called on children to learn the values of the society to enable them fit into it when they grow up.
He made the call at the 10th anniversary celebration of the International Year of the Family at Sekondi. It was on the theme: "Stabilising the Family Through Shared Support".
Mr Hackman said the society has certain rich values and norms that all children should learn and respect to enable them to become responsible future leaders.
"The family is one of the values and bedrock of society that must be recognised and safeguarded for society to progress and stay united." Mr Hackman expressed concern that in some broken families, parents do not talk to each other and that children are denied health care, education and even food, adding that, this behaviour undermines the family as an important institution of the society.
He advised children to take their education seriously to enable them marry properly in future before bringing forth children of their own.
Mr Solomon Adjei, a Civic Education Officer at the Regional Secretariat of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), asked children to help stabilise the family by going to school and respecting their parents.
He said education of the child is a shared responsibility between the parent and the child because the child has the responsibility to stay in school and learn hard.
