The Reverend Dr Fred Deegbe, General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana, has charged Christian tertiary institutions to let their missions and principles reflect in the character and attitude of graduates they produce.
They should train and produce exceptional leaders who have sound mind and qualitative conviction that would be able to shape the country's culture and transform society.
Addressing the 4th congregation of the Ghana Baptist University College (GBUC) in Kumasi on Saturday, Reverend Deegbe pointed out that products from Christian universities should be able to lead the attitudinal change and character transformation crusade in the country.
Two hundred and ninety seven (297) graduates received first degrees, diplomats and certificates in Business Administration and Theology.
Reverend Deegbe explained that over 90 per cent of the country’s population claimed to be religious, yet ungodly attitude, immoral behavior and bad character continued to afflict the nation.
He said this was a challenge to Christian tertiary institutions to ensure that their mission, principles and values were imbibed in the students they trained so that they could exhibit them in society.
“Students from Christian universities should exhibit sterling qualities that the Christendom and members in society can boast off at all times," he stressed.
He advised the graduates to make a difference in society by espousing moral and ethical values that reflected the training they received in the university.
Reverend Dr Kojo Osei-Wusuh, President of GBUC, said plans were underway to bring on board three additional programmes in the university.
They are General Nursing, Public Health Nursing and Social Sciences with emphasis on Childhood and business Education, as well as Information and Communication Technology (ICT). A partnership agreement had also been reached with the SMC University in Switzerland to begin a doctorate programme in business in March this year, he added.
Reverend Osei-Wusuh said expansion of infrastructure, as well as strengthening and recruitment of additional faculty members and staff, were on going and called for support from all stakeholders in an effort to grow the young university.
