Christians urged to sacrifice to improve conditions in communities

Winneba, April 11, GNA - The Chairman of Winneba Zone A of the Church of Pentecost, Pastor Thomas Kobena Tandoh has urged Christians to sacrifice to improve the conditions in their communities and their neighbours. "We must emulate our mentor Jesus Christ, who sacrifice his life to save mankind, Pastor Tandoh said.

He made the call at a five-day convention of the Church at Apam. Pastor Tandoh exhorted Christians to be law abiding and show respect for authority.

He appealed to politicians to respect each other's views and conduct their campaigns in a peaceful manner.

Preaching the sermon at the convention on Good Friday, Pastor J.C. Agbesi expressed regret that partisan politics had polarised the nation to the extent that people were prepared to shield the truth either to protect members of their parties or to discredit their opponents.

Pastor Agbesi said Jesus was hated and finally killed because of the good things he did for his fellows and called on Ghanaians to appreciate the good things others did and give them credit.

He cited four reasons why Jesus was crucified. These were economic, because he spoilt the business of people who were using God's temple as gambling place and because he exposed those who exploited people who needed help from God.

Religious, because they did not accept Jesus as the Messiah and interpreted claim as blasphemy.

Pastor Agbesi said Jesus was crucified for political reason because Pilate knew he was innocent of the charges levelled against him but was afraid to set him free because he was threatened that if he did so, Pilate would no longer be considered as a friend of Caesar.
