Church assists needy institutions with food items

Kumasi, Nov. 3, GNA - The Christ Reform (Kristo Asafo) Church, on Sunday distributed food items worth 222.8 million cedis including cash to 64 needy institutions from the northern sector of the country. The items included 1,180 bags of maize, livestock and some vegetables.

Wheel chairs were also donated to some physically disabled persons. Also on display were a car engine and musical instruments the church manufactured.

Presenting the items at the church's 23rd annual charity and technology exhibition in Kumasi, Apostle Kwadwo Safo, the leader of the church, said it was not true that without foreign intervention and donor support Ghana could not use its local entrepreneurs to develop.

He said Ghana had the relevant natural and human resources to initiate and promote its own development without foreign support or intervention and added, "Our only problem is laziness."

"The tendency for Ghanaians to perceive everything from the western countries as superior has also contributed to killing our initiative to harness our God-given talents for development." Professor Daniel Boye Okine, Dean of Faculty of Agriculture, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), commended the Christ Reform Church for its practical concern for the care of the needy.

He called on other churches to emulate the example of the church by establishing large-scale farms to produce food to assist the needy and also to create jobs for the unemployed youth.
