Tamale, July 15, GNA- The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) on Tuesday donated medical equipment to the Tamale Hospital to support the inadequate medical facilities at the hospital. The equipment included 145 boxes of medical supplies, 10 boxes of newborn kits, three emergency stretches, three BP apparatus and two wheel chairs.
The items, which were made possible through the initiative of the Vice-President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama was presented to the Hospital by the Northern Regional Minister, Mr Ernest Debrah.
Mr Debrah who was conducted round the hospital by the Senior Medical Officer in-charge, Dr Sam B. Obeng-Agyei, urged the workers to be dedicated and committed to duty while the government address the problems at the Hospital.
He called on all to put their hands on deck to salvage the economy from its present state.
The Minister said the government was committed to improving the health sector to ensure quality healthcare for the people to create wealth through the government's Poverty Reduction Strategy (PRS).
Dr Obeng-Agyei thanked the donors and appealed for more support from other Churches and NGOs to help improve conditions at the Hospital. He said the Hospital was congested and called on the Ministry of Health to provide infrastructure development to enable it to take care of the increasingly number of patients that it admits daily.
Dr Obeng-Agyei called for the fencing of the hospital land area to stop private developers from encroachment and animals from straying into the hospital premises during working hours.
He announced that construction work on the female ward financed by the Highly Indebted Poor Country (HIPC) Fund was on going while the Children's Ward project which was also, supported by the Japanese government through the initiative of the Member of Parliament for the Gulkpagu /Sabonjida was nearing completion.
