Winneba, July 2, GNA - The Winneba District branch of the Apostolic Church has undertaken functional literacy programmes to train illiterate members of the Church to become functionally literate. Apart from Ghanaian languages, particularly the 'Akan' language which is widely spoken in the area, learners would be thought English, simple Economics, and Book-keeping to enable them to operate their small-scale businesses efficiently.

Pastor Emmanuel Odoi-Baah, Minister In-Charge of the Winneba District of the Church disclosed this when closing a day's leadership training course for sectional heads of the Church at Winneba on Friday. Pastor Odoiu-Baah said the Church was determined to contribute positively to the success of the national Non Formal Educational programme in the country.

He appealed to the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly and the authorities of the Non Formal Education Division of the Ghana education Service to come to the aid of the Church with material and other support to ensure the success of the programme.

Mr. K. Atuah, an executive member of the Church, said registration of learners was in progress, stressing that everything possible would be made to make the programme succeed.

Meanwhile, with the support of an Accra-based Non Governmental Organization, the branch is training about 50 of its members in various computer subjects.
