Chamba (N/R), Sept 3, GNA - A social worker has appealed to women to sacrifice to for the socio-economic improvement of less privileged females.
Madam Agnes A Gandaa, Coordinator of the Tamale Ecclesiastical Provincial Pastoral Conference (TEPPCON) of the Catholic Church, said poor women and children are looking up to women of social standing for help to improve their conditions of life.
She was addressing a three-day "trainers of trainees workshop" on the Mutual Health Insurance Scheme for 50 health workers and teachers from the Yendi and Navrongo/Bolgatanga Diocese of the Church at Chamba in the Nanumba District.
The Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAF), a Germany NGO, sponsored the forum. Madam Gandaa appealed to female nurses to help educate women in rural areas to understand and embrace the scheme introduced by the government.
She said many women in the Upper East, Upper West and the Northern regions lost their lives and babies because they could not afford antenatal fees.
Madam Gandaa expressed the hope that the scheme would help save lives, saying, it is the intention of the Church to address the social, economic, political, spiritual, educational as well as health problems of the people.
Mr Johannes Rey, Resident Representative of KAF said the organisation would continue to support the TEPPCON to carry out its programmes to encourage Catholics to participate in politics, especially at the district level.
He said KAF is holding discussions with the Church to identify areas for further support, especially in rural communities.
