Church says it does not practise occultism

Kumasi, July 25, GNA - A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has disabused the minds of the public that the Church practises occultism.

Mr Rexford Obiri Ferguson, Kumasi-Ghana Stake President of the Church, who stated this, said the perception people had about the church was wrong.

He was speaking at a Chapel Open House forum to mark the opening of a newly built Chapel at Bomso in Kumasi at the weekend.. Speaking on the topic, "Families First", Mr Ferguson said the Church does not accept make-ups neither does it allow portraits, pictures or paintings to be pasted on the walls of its chapel. This, he explained, was to avoid disruptions during worship to enable the congregation to concentrate on sermons. Mr Ferguson said the focus of the Church was on the family because God appreciate the family.

Mr Maxwell Boakye, an accountant at the Jachie Training Centre for the Disabled, called on Churches and other religious organisations to provide structures for people with disabilities so that they could worship in chapels.

He said it was painful for people with disabilities to be confined to specific places, during religious and social gatherings due to the lack of facilities for them.

Mr Boakye, however, commended the Church for providing facilities for disabled persons.

Mr Samuel S. Darko, Kumasi Stake Director of Public Affairs, said the Chapel Open House Programme was aimed at informing the community of its Christ-centred doctrines and to re-affirm the church's role as a vital source of awareness to challenges of life.
