Church service for Independence celebrations

Bawku (UE/R), March 13, GNA - A non-denominational church service was held at Bawku to climax the 49th Independence Day anniversary celebrations. In a sermon, the Anglican Overseer of Bawku, Rev. Fr. Dominic Alale, admonished Christians to eschew all forms of violent behaviours and desire to live in harmony with all, irrespective of their religious, ethnic or political opinions. He pointed out that man's desire to love one another and live in peace promotes progress, stressing that this should be the focus of all on earth to ensure the stability and development of societies.

Rev. Fr. Alale, who is the chairman of the Bawku local council of churches, entreated the Christian community to respect and tolerate one another's view adding that, this was the sure way of sustaining the nation's young democracy and forward development. He enjoined his fellow leaders to use the pulpits to educate the congregations to be law abiding and to exercise their civic responsibilities towards the state for the betterment of all citizens.

The Bawku Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Abdul-Rahman Gumah, said a total rebirth of the citizens through attitudinal change was the surest way of moving the nation forward to attain its goal of a middle-income status. He noted that patriotism and the desire to put Ghana first before any political aspirations, could rekindle communal spirit to rebuild the nation to redeem its image on the world stage. Mr Gumah urged the Christian community to pray for the government and leaders in high offices to implement policies that would have positive impact on the nation. He called on them to participate meaningfully in governance.
