Church to raise funds for scholarship scheme

Agormenya (E/R), July 19, GNA - The Assemblies of God Church at Agormenya in the Manya-krobo District is to raise 250 million cedis by December this year, to start a scholarship scheme to support needy students in the area and to complete a school complex being constructed by the church.

The District Pastor of the Church, Pastor Stephen Narh, announced this on Sunday at the launching of the 13th Prayer Festival and the inauguration of a five-member education committee of the church. He called on Krobo's to invest in their wards' education to improve the standard of education of the youth in the area.

Pastor Narh noted that Krobo's were more conscious of taking their children through culture practices, such as the "Dipo" rites than sending them to school and urged them to pay equal attention to education.

He observed that it was sad to see children of school-going age loitering about in the community during school hours, as a result of parents' inability to pay their fees "yet the same parents are always seen in expensive clothes and jewelries during ceremonies" and wondered why they could not pay their wards fees.

Pastor Narh explained that, though the church had already been helping needy persons through education, the scholarship scheme would enable the church to enlarge the support it gives, to be able to reach out to many more people, as possible. Earlier in a sermon, Pastor Narh said it was the duty of the church to seek the face of God to save situations such as armed-robbery in the country. He called on the people to complement the efforts of government in developing the country by having a positive minds and urged people to pray for the nation at all times and not only during elections.
