Akim Oda (E/R), Sept. 4, GNA - The chairperson of the West Akim Presbytery, Mrs Alice Kyei-Anti has called for concerted efforts from churches to help address the problems of ethnicity and gender discrimination facing the nation.
She noted that if the situation was left unchecked, it had the potential to threaten the future well being of the country, adding, "we cannot build a sound nation on this fragmented pillars."
Mrs Kyei-Anti, who was speaking at the 46th Annual National Delegates Conference of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana Choirs Union (PCGCU) at Akim Oda on Friday, regretted that, "this disunity canker is even occurring in the church."
The five-day conference, which is under the theme: "That All May Have Life in Fullness"; is being attended by about 900 delegates from all over country.
The chairperson urged the choristers to live exemplary lives worthy of emulation, especially by the youth, to check the incidence of drug abuse and indiscipline.
In a speech read on his behalf, the Eastern Regional Minister, Dr Francis Osafo-Mensah called on Christians to see the forthcoming elections as a period requiring tolerance and accommodation of each other's political opinions for the growth of the nation's democracy. He said as Ghanaians, "we have no other place like Ghana and therefore we should do acts that will help promote the development of the country".
Dr Osafo-Mensah urged the Union to intensify its educational campaign on good parenting and to teach the young ones to know Christ early in life so that all may have life in fullness."
The National President of the Union, Mr Moses Kofi Sogah, who regretted that the Ghanaian music scene was filled with profane music, charged the Musician Union of Ghana to encourage its members to compose inspiring songs on such "worrying issues" like HIV/AIDS, indiscipline, teenage pregnancy, corruption and the like.
He said such songs could be a "therapy to the stressful and depressed head, the emotionally unbalanced and serve as an evangelistic tool in the church ministry."
