Church urged to advice Government on poverty and corruption

Koforidua, Sept. 19, GNA - The Minister of the Interior, Mr. Hackman Owusu-Agyemang has called on Religious Organizations to use their forum to educate their members on current social issues and advise government on such issues including poverty, HIV/AIDS and corruption.

This was contained in a speech read on his behalf at the formal opening of the fourth delegates conference of the Koforidua Diocesan Anglican Church Guild of Servers at Koforidua on Saturday.

Mr Owusu-Agyeman expressed the appreciation of government to Christians Churches for their engagement in the provision of schools, hospitals and support to communities.

He called on the members of the church to rise up to build, not only their organizations but also society in which the church operates. Mr Owusu-Agyemang called on the Church to pray and preach for peaceful elections in the country without necessarily being political. The Chaplin of the Guild of Servers Rev. Fr. Richard A. Banor, called for discipline and hard work among the servers.

He assured them that once the Church sees them to be serious with their work and serve the Church honourably, it would also give them their due in all activities .

Rev. Fr. Felix Annacy, Director of the Diocesan Ministerial Education Centre assured the servers that God always reward people who offer good service to the Lord.

In a welcoming address, the Director of the Koforidua Anglican Dioces Guild of Servers, Nana Koranteng Ameyaw, reminded the servers that rebuilding require dedication, devotion and trustworthiness. He called on the members of the guild to open up their heart and mind to do the right things to help build up the Guild of Servers.
