Ekon (C/R), Dec. 30, GNA- Ms Christine Churcher, Member of Parliament for Cape Coast on Tuesday declared her intention to re-contest the seat next year, because of her determination to serve her constituency.
She denied rumours that she was giving up the seat, and urged the people to re-elect her next year to enable her continue with her good work.
Ms Churcher said this when she cut the sod for construction work to begin on a 202 million-cedis bridge over the Ekon lagoon, near Cape Coast.
The project is being funded jointly from her MP's share of the Common Fund and the Ministry of Finance.
Construction of the bridge is scheduled to complete within six months, to link the village with Moree near Yamoransa, to facilitate the easy movement of the inhabitants.
Ms Churcher held that she was the right person to manage the affairs of the constituency and that there was nobody in the opposition who could challenge or take the seat from her in next year's general elections.
She called for peace and unity and urged the people not to allow "politics of lies", to divide them, and that they should forge ahead with the development of their area.
Mr Francis Mensah, Assembly member for the area, commended the government for providing development projects, including a clinic and a school block in the area.
Nana Kwesi Atta, Chief of Ekon, commended the government for its good work and observed that in the three years that it has been in power, "the area has seen tremendous development".
