Sunyani, Sept. 21, GNA- Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri 11, Omanhene of Sunyani Traditional Area on Tuesday called on Churches to extend their Christian activities to traditional rulers. "Since Christianity is a tool for promoting peace, there is the need for chiefs to understand the Word of God so that they can help to maintain peace in the country", he said.
The Omanhene made the call in a speech read for him at the launch of "Sunyani Mission 2004", an evangelistic campaign organized by churches in the Brong Ahafo in partnership with African Enterprise - an interdenominational organization. The campaign slated for October 2-9 would be under the theme, "Peace be still" and would aim at promoting peace in the country. Nana Asor-Nkrawiri expressed concern about pastors and church leaders whose sermons centred much on prosperity than the Word of God, to reform mankind.
The Omanhene advised churches to target the youth in their evangelism and join the campaign against HIV/AIDS.
Nana Kwadwo Seinti, Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister urged Ghanaians to embrace Christianity and forgive each other to promote unity. Bishop Kwame Omane-Achamfuor of the Sunyani Methodist Diocese who presided, entreated Christians to win more souls for Christ.
In a welcoming address, the Right Reverend Dr. Nii Amoo Darko, Mission Director of African Enterprise, said the African Enterprise had trained 200 street children in batik, tie-and-dye, tailoring and other vocations while 126 reformed prostitutes were also being trained.
Rev. Dr. Darko called on the general public to cooperate with the "Mission 2004" programme, "because it seeks the interest of the people of this country".
