Government workers who receive their salaries through the Controller and Accountant General Department in Bawku have for the past four months been agitating for their pay slips from the Controller and Accountant General.
Most of the workers who depend on the pay slips to plan on how to spend their salaries are in the state of confusion and say, they do not know how much they receive from the banks as the pay advisers were not there to advise them on their salaries.
Some of the workers who spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Bawku said that, the pay slips were documents that some workers used to seek financial assistance from financial institutions as their monthly salaries were not enough to solve their personal problems.
The workers who threatened to demonstrate, described officials in charge as incompetent and inconsistent in the discharge of their duties since no Ghanaian worker could tell the actual salary he or she received monthly.
They said, since the inception of the single spine pay policy, most workers have been receiving inconsistent salaries and this had become a worry to most workers because they could not plan for themselves.
Mr Paul Apam, Bawku Municipal Secretary for the Civil and Public Servants Association, expressed worry about the issue adding that, workers were in a state of financial confusion because they could not tell how much they receive in a month.
He called on government to give a second look at the issue and rectify it since it was becoming a worry to workers in the area and the country as a whole.**
