Civil servants urged to exhibit high sense of patriotism

Kumasi, July 1, GNA - Dr Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah, Ashanti Regional Minister, has urged civil servants to exhibit a high sense of patriotism in the discharge of their duties to inject pace into the country's socio-economic progress.

"At this stage of our nation's development, we need proactive civil servants, who are creative and able to support the nation towards the expansion of the economy."

Dr Agyemang-Mensah said they needed to be time conscious, hardworking and also desist from all forms of malpractices that could undermine the economic gains made in recent times.

He was addressing a ceremony to mark this year's Senior Citizens' Day at the forecourt of the Residency in Kumasi.

"Ghana is what it is today because of the dedication, sacrifices and meritorious services rendered by our senior citizens who served in various capacities in the army, police, civil service, education and other departments and agencies."

He said the present generation should take inspiration from the selflessness and devotion to duty by the fore-bearers to forge ahead despite the challenges confronting the nation.

The Minster appealed to retired civil citizens to continue to share their experiences to help instil discipline and good work ethics in the civil service.

Dr Agyemang-Mensah spoke of the government's resolve to introduce pro-poor interventions and pursue policies that would better the lives of the people.
