Classic FM donates to charity home

Nkoranza (B/A), Aug. 21, GNA - The management of Classic FM radio station in Techiman at the weekend donated relief and food items worth about GHC 1,000 to inmates of Peace for Christ Community Home at Nkoranza.

The items were made up of yams, biscuits, drinks, second hand clothing and footwear.

Mrs. Naomi Zeini, wife of the director of the station who presented the items said the gesture was to support and encourage the inmates as well as mark the 10th anniversary celebration of the radio station. She said to show appreciation to the people for their patronage of the station's operations; similar donations would be made to two other homes at Krobo and Techiman.

Mrs. Zeini expressed concern about the condition of the mentally handicapped children at the Home and called on other individuals and philanthropists to support them.

She paid tribute to Dr Inneke Bossman and her husband Mr. Bob Maram for establishing the Home for the children who were abandoned by their parents, and asked for God's blessings for the couple, so that they would continue to support the children.

Dr Bossman, a Dutch medical doctor at Saint Theresa's Hospital at Nkoranza, commended Mr. Zeini and management of the radio station for showing "great love and concern" for the upkeep of the children, saying it had not been easy for her and the husband to manage the Home. The Home is jointly managed by Peace of Christ Community and Hand in hand Community, two local organisations at Nkoranza. There are 81 children, 61 of them permanently staying at the Home with 20 others from selected homes in Nkoranza. Dr Bossman said the children were picked from the streets in Nkoranza and other places such as Osu Children's Home, Accra Psychiatrist Hospital and Tamale Orphanage. She expressed appreciation to some friends and sympathizers in Holland for their financial support towards the management and development of the Home and appealed for more assistance from NGOs and philanthropists.

Mr. Robert Asi, an elderly disabled person who lives with the children thanked the management of the radio station for the donation. In another development, members of Agyekum Fan club, a welfare association formed by some NDC youth in Nkoranza South district, have donated relief items worth GHC 100 to a three-year old cripple at Nyapranase in the district.

The items were made up of a student's mattress, a mini bag of rice, 20 plastic cups and plates, used clothing and 20 Ghana cedis. The youth formed the association in the heat of the 2008 electioneering campaigns to canvass for votes for the party's Parliamentary candidate, Mr. Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, who is now the District Chief Executive.

Presenting the items, Mr. Kwame Nti, Treasurer, said the gesture was in line with the club's aim of offering support and assistance to colleagues in need.

He advised members of the club to maintain their co-operative spirit and support the DCE for a successful administration. Mr. John Kwasi Kwao, an official of the Nkoranza district secretariat of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) urged the people to be careful in handling fires, especially on their farms, to prevent bushfires.

He advised them to prepare fire belts around their thatched houses and farms during the dry season to protect themselves against bushfires. Mr. Akrapim Baffoe, Assembly Member, commended members of the club for their unity and gesture towards the rehabilitation of the poor and the needy and urged them to maintain the good practice for the growth of the club.

Mr. Opare Youtar, expressed gratitude to the club for showing love and concern form him and his family.

Meanwhile Mr. Agyekum has urged the management of Nkoranza District Health Insurance Scheme to register the disabled child to enable her enjoy free and quality medical care.
