Kumasi, June 20, GNA - The Reverend Joseph K. Gyimah, leader of the True Light of Christ Church, has urged the clergy not to wait until national emergencies or crisis situations occur before they intervene with suggestions and pieces of advice to the national leadership. He said instead of waiting for national crisis situations, the clergy should make guidance and counselling of the national leadership a continuous affair.
Rev. Gyimah gave the advice at a mini crusade organised by the Church in Kumasi on Saturday, which served as a platform to say prayers for a peaceful election year.
He stressed: "By continuously offering advice and making guidance of the national leadership a permanent feature, the clergy will be contributing their quota immensely to the prevention of such unfortunate situations".
Rev. Gyimah observed that the chances of such late suggestion or advice, no matter how good, would have a minimal effect if "a problem has already cropped up or a crisis situation had already taken root". He explained that even though the Council of State had been mandated to counsel "our national leaders, especially the presidency, its efforts still needed to be complemented by various opinion leaders, including the clergy and traditional authorities to make it more fruitful."
He observed that even though reconciliation and peace were vital ingredients to the development and growth of every economy, its achievement could be made possible only through genuine demonstration of that virtue by national leaders through their willingness to forgive and burry their differences.
